Mixing 14K yellow, white, and rose gold in one stack is a current favorite, but a tonal stack in a single gold color reads just as intentional. The rule that matters most isn't aesthetic, it's structural: every ring in your stack should be cast in the same purity of gold. Mixing real 14K or 18K gold with gold-plated or vermeil pieces causes uneven wear — the plated ring tarnishes and thins years before the solid gold ring does, and stacked rings rub against each other constantly, accelerating that wear.
